Snowbee Top Rod Competition April 14th - Hawkridge

Round 2 of the Snowbee Top Rod Competition was up at Hawkridge near the village of Spaxton, just outside Bridgewater in Somerset.


Hawkridge is 32 acres and set in the Quantock Hills.


There was plenty of birdlife to be seen at the lake today with Swallows flying about, Woodpeckers could be heard with a Peacock in the distance along with Candian Geese, Ducks and Grebes on the water.


15 anglers made the trip and were met by Gary Howe the Ranger for tips and any advice.


Weather was 12 degrees, sunny spells with a generally light North Easterly wind.


Fish were free rising all day in all areas of the Lake.


Best tactics were Floating line with Buzzers, Diawl bachs, Damsels and Cats Whiskers and Intermediates with Lures fished quickly.


15 anglers caught 71 fish for a bag weight of 168lbs 7oz


13 anglers caught their 5 fish limit.


Average catch 4.7


Average weight 2.3lbs


Best Fish of the day was 7lbs 12oz Rainbow caught by Darren Penfold, followed by 4lbs 4oz caught be Tom Hendy. Nigel Perrin caught 4lbs Rainbow, Max Mockridge caught 3lbs 12oz Rainbow, Alec Hoare caught a cracking 3lbs 8oz Spartic Trout. 12 fish were weighed over 3lbs.
