Snowbee Top Rod Competition May 31st - Blagdon Boats Fred Pike Cup

Round 5 of the Snowbee Top Rod Competition was at Blagdon Lake on the edge of the Mendip Hills near Bristol.

Weather was a cloudy start then the sun came out and with temps around 18-20 degrees felt a bit cooler with the moderate westerly winds.

After a breakfast stop at 0745 at the Sidcott Arms we were away from the boat dock by 1000 and fished until 1700 with the weigh in at 1730.

Reports had said it was fishing well but it was a very tough day for us.

12 anglers fished in 6 boats and we managed just 6 fish.

Average catch .5

Average weight 3.25lbs

We fished in all areas of the lake with the Dam proving to be most successful area.

Best tactics were pulling mini lures.

The strong wind had churned the water up so the top end didn't fish as expected.

Best fish of the day went to Steve Floyd - 4lbs 8oz

There were a few pike caught during the day - best by Rob Gale approx 8lbs.

9 Anglers failed to catch

We have a new sponsor from today and that's Dartmoor Brewery who have kindly supplied a pack of beers for each Snowbee Top Rod Competition.

Dartmoor IPA, Jail Ale and Legend.

Thanks to Steve Post.
